FEAR THE SOFTEST GAZE
Fawns of Love is a post-punk duo that consists of vocalist Jenny Andreotti and multi-instrumentalist Joseph Andreotti. Their new LP titled Fear the Softest Gaze proposes that maybe Emily Dickinson had it right, maybe Bitter Bierce was on to something, and maybe Buster Keaton really couldn't find anything worth smiling about. So get your Ouija board out folks and let's conjure some spirits.
The album was mixed by Jenny Andreotti and mastered by Joseph Andreotti. It features a duet with Calvin Johnson (Beat Happening, K Records) and an alternate version of the title track by Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins).

Lyrics:
Fear the Softest Gaze
Put your pen to paper
Leave a trace behind
Buried deep in mystery
Is there any meaning to find?
I used to think true love awaits
Hidden deep for those who wait
Fear the softest gaze
Show me kindness
Make me blush
Then Keep hidden
A desire forbidden
Ambrose Pierce
You do not wish to kiss these lips
Or place your hands upon my hips
I can trace your scars
With my finger
Nerves erect, a dreaded stinger
Bullets pierce
From above
Blood will drip
A strange trip
Our marriage bed
Fills you with dread
Memories flood
Face down in the mud
As your lungs fill with blood
Faces flushed, once upon a time
Courting the Devil's Printer
Days are long
Is it wrong?
To say that you turn me on
Images flashing on a screen
For now, it's good enough for me
Nighttime feels like eternity
I pray for daybreak
Is it a sin to lust for you?
Days are long
Is it wrong?
That you've been gone for so long
I can hear you whispering through the static
on my machine
Poison Sweat Nightshade
You planted a seed
I break my brittle nails
As I dig beneath
Trying to retrieve my dignity
You seduced me with a nightshade
Disguised as hope
You did, I admit
Make my bottom lip quiver
Please break this fever
l await the day
Drenched in sweat
I will say
Hope is you and hope is poison
Nihilism is Nice
I ask for your reprieve
And you deny me
Today is the day
For turning over leaves
After shaking trees
Once choked with fear
Wet with tears
Now lost in the abyss
Praise, it's bliss
I feel nothing
Praise I sing
Nihilism is nice
Sing it once twice
Nihilism is nice is nice
Broken Bodies of Violent Storms
I sit alone haunted by your memory
Can the dead forgive the living?
I've cried and cried so many tears
There's nothing left now
But violent storms
Broken bodies
Broken minds
Disease or violence
Which will be mine?
When it's my time
Emblem Stumbles
She wears white
An emblem of purity
And stumbles like a newly birthed fawn
She wants to hum the familiar tune
But her memory fails her
Her own mind betrays her
She can't recall the one she loves most of all
Innocence of Protection LP
Innocence of Protection (Kingfisher Bluez, Sunday Records) was written and recorded in the duo’s studio using Moog synthesizers and Eastwood Guitars. The album centers on the themes of innocence, frailty, and vulnerability. When explaining the themes of the album Jenny says, “I think when we are children we use make believe as a creative outlet, but as we get older we use daydreaming as a tool of protection when we feel overwhelmed and as a way to have control over something. For this album I liked the idea of recreating what it feels like to float in and out of daydreaming and reality.” While writing the songs both Jenny and Joseph were inspired by Cocteau Twins, The Pastels, Yukihiro Takahashi, Dali’s Car, and New Order. The album artwork and layout was created by Paul West at Form (Cocteau Twins, Depeche Mode) and the photography by Spiros Politis (Cocteau Twins, Nick Cave). The album is being released on vinyl by Kingfisher Bluez and on compact disc by Sunday Records. The compact disc includes bonus tracks that includes a remix by Kid Ginseng (Tom Tom Club, Kraftjerkz).

Lyrics:
Innocence of Protection:
Verse One:
Side by side in embrace
Was the last time I felt safe
I tried but cannot capture
That feeling again
Chorus:
Innocence the sweetest defense
Shatters my protections
Innocence the sweetest defense
Shatters my protections inside
Verse Two:
Beauty drifts in clouds
I drift in thought
Feeling warmth of sweeter memories
Feeling warmth of sweeter memories
Waiting for Dali’s Car:
Verse One:
Slender fingers running up and down the fret without regret
Chorus:
Slender man ghostly strut
Slender man ghostly strut
Verse Two:
Sitting in back of Dali’s car
Applying cat eye
Smeared with a sharp right turn
That’s what you get for riding with a mad man
Stylistic Tears:
Verse One:
Distant memories bring tears to my eyes
And I hate the sentiment because it shatters my pride
Chorus:
I love to watch you cry
We are living now parallel lives
Verse Two:
It was nice to see you again
If only in a dream
Falling apart at the seams
Taboo Daydreaming:
Verse One:
Water will wash the pain away
Thoughts filled with regret
Thoughts filled with regret
Thought filled with regret
No release today from a self-created maze
Chorus:
Daydreams of taboo things
Driving me insane
Painful aches
Created by past mistakes
Verse Two:
Desire of the mind wishing for something new and strange
Break routines and break the spell
Break routines and break the spell
Break routines and break the spell because the devil is in the detail
In Between Maddening:
Verse One:
The sun peaks through the leaves
As I lye crying to sleep
Not tired but wanting to be free
Not tired but wanting to be free
Chorus:
Nothing changes
Nothing stays the same
This in between is maddening
Verse Two:
I’m sick of moving gently so I don’t offend
Now even existing is a sin
So I stumble with clipped wings
Silent, unable to speak
Thoughtless Rage:
Verse One:
Drowning in constant shame
Isolated
In a daze
Frozen inside a capsule of time
Forsaken and taken hostage by rhyme
Chorus:
This constant shame in not a faze
It will not fade
Or go away
Verse Two:
Sinking down in a mental maze
Overtaken by thoughtless rage
Obsessed
Depressed
Ready to tear the page
But you’re seared in memory all the same
Memory Triggers:
Verse One:
Are growing comfortable in your own skin?
A miserable child
Posed as an adult in rage
Trauma digs your feet
Like roots
Like roots
Chorus:
One memory triggers another
In time you will discover
Push your thoughts away today
Tomorrow they will fester
Verse Two:
Do you feel empathy?
Unconditional love?
Or a fit of rage?
Are you willing to let it go?
Or to blame?
Depends on the day
Suburban Waves:
Verse One:
Mechanical sound of anger
That knows nothing of oppression and scarcity
They want to be seen
Chorus:
Sitting here
Listening to suburban waves
Sitting here
Listening to suburban waves
Verse Two:
The sound of speed
They don’t care it’s damaging
A sad display of insecurity
They want to be heard
But scorn is easy to score
Fawns of Love x Robin Guthrie 7"
"Someday (Robin Guthrie Version)” (Kingfisher Bluez) was recorded and mixed by Robin Guthrie of Cocteau Twins, who created his own version of the track that originally appeared on the previously released Permanent LP (Test Pattern). Guthrie creates an ethereal and earnest mood to his version of “Someday” by contributing multiple lush guitar tracks, bass guitar, keys, and drums. The B-side features “Never Sing For Joy” which was recorded both by the Andreottis and at Cave Studio by Josiah Mazzaschi. The track showcases Jenny's lyrical themes of isolation and nihilism while using the Moog synthesizer as a primary instrument.”

Lyrics:
Someday
You pull me near then push me away
I get why you’re so afraid
Maybe you’ll trust me someday
Don’t put him in my heart if you don’t want him there
Why cross our paths just to cause despair
And even though innocent souls break hearts
Choices have been made
And there’s always a price to pay
You’ve teased me long enough
Even though it has been rough
I still keep you near
Never Sing for Joy
Days in wake
In a panicked state
I’m lonely but I escaped
Hidden safe in an altered space
Darkness haunts me
My flesh taints me
Got to get out
This poison inside
When happiness is destroyed
You can never sing for joy
A daydream melody
Is something I need
Part Time Punks Session: Permanent Revisited 12"
“Bakersfield post-punk duo Fawns of Love are back with their second KXLU Part Time Punks radio session titled, Part Time Punks Session: Permanent Revisited 12” EP (Obeah Records). It features a live performance at Cave Studio (recorded by Josiah Mazzaschi) of five tracks that originally appeared on their Permanent LP. Permanent LP
“Fawns of Love start the new year off right with the release of their highly anticipated new LP titled Permanent. Mixed and mastered by Josiah Mazzaschi (whose credits include The Jesus & Mary Chain and Built to Spill). Jenny & Joseph Andreotti's second full length release takes their classic era dream pop sound to it's highest level yet. Stand out tracks like Someday, Mournful Eyes, and December showcase Jenny's angelic vocals and ear worm melodies over Joseph's hook filled guitar lines and driving vintage drum machine beats that are destined for the dance floor. “

December
In November paranoia begins to settle in
You try to tell yourself its not bad luck
It’s just a fluke
Maybe this time
Maybe this time
Things will turn out different
They can’t be the same
Dreading December days
Each year someone I love goes away
December is here
Sadness and cancer is what we fear
The leaves are brown
People leave with a frown
It doesn’t seem to matter how good you try to be
When people are determined they will leave
Horoscope
I have a void
I wish that I
Could fill it up
With your love
I read your horoscope after mine
If we’re lucky our stars might align
Months pass by I keep waiting for a sign
Each card drawn is the wrong one
I’m sick of uncertainty
It feels like drowning
Permanent
Loneliness is all I ever feel
I want something to feel real
Forgetting you is never easy to do
Loving you is even harder to do
As the night falls I watch the shadows
Dancing across the wall
Mournful Eyes
Late at night I think of you
I shouldn’t be
The guilt is overwhelming
And what if it came to be?
Would you still be kind to me?
It is just lust
A kind of greed
That can never be
I wish that I could feel nothing
But your mournful eyes compel me
It is just a guess
False hope
Maybe relief
Or a fantasy
Is this denial?
Or have you been watching me for a while?
Divine
When you’re hot you set me aflame
But when you’re cold I freeze
Taking revenge sounds divine
Another time
I’m trying to be all the things you want me to be
But I keep failing
Ashamed you watched me fail
But oh well
Love fades with each passing day
I’m happy to watch it decay
Anarchy & Kisses
When lovers embrace it’s all right
Save that fight for another night
Ecstasy waits with each vibrate
I love to see you smile
I haven’t seen it in a while
We spent so many years
Locked inside a cold dark daze
Thinking we had all the answers
Wasted Days
Another lustful glance at a picture on your wall
What a waste of energy
Think about the past
We are getting what we deserve
Day turns into night
Another wasted day
You didn’t make it okay
Nothing special to say
What did you do today?
Look at every man you’d like to screw
Am I getting through to you?
I don’t think I am
Zine Days 7"
“‘Zine Days’ is a tribute to my teenage self, and a eulogy,” she explains. “I lost my eldest brother to cancer when I was fourteen. I was an absolute innocent insecure mess in junior high, and he tried to boost my self-esteem by saying that I had better watch out for boys. He knew damn well that the only way any boy would look my way was to cheat off my test, but to this day it is one of the kindest things anyone has ever said to me. My brother was sensitive to my growing pains even though his own life was tragically spiraling out of control. With ‘Zine Days’ I have done my best to capture that sense of innocence and loss.”
This depth of emotion comes to life in physical form with the single’s cover art and music video which are both viewable in 3-D.

Lyrics:
Zine Days
Gone are the radio days
And you’re gone too
But I still want you
With every breath and beat of my heart
Gone are the zine days
Gone are the me and you days
Gone are the movie days
Feeling something days
In its place is something angry
There’s no time for dreaming and escape
Something Stupid
If I drink one more
That could be it
I will do something stupid
I will be honest
A little too real
Flirt, text, misbehave
Beg, plead, I want you
Why don’t you want me?
As my drink spills
It’s obvious
I’m about to do something I will regret
Something with a permanent affect

Lyrics:
Falling
Seduced by the girls with white teeth and perfectly petite breasts
You knew whatever she asked you, you just couldn’t refuse
Now when people ask you say
She made you feel young
She made you feel something
Something is better than nothing
Falling apart or nothing or nothing
Watch, watch, watch
It’s all falling apart
But the two of you are stuck a thousand miles away
From ending it
It might as well be a million
She made you feel young
She made you feel something
Something is better than nothing
Falling apart or nothing or nothing
Standing
Who knew indifference could cut so deep?
Your lack of interest
Is killing me killing me
I know I’m not that interesting
I know I’m not that interesting
And I repeat
I’m standing right in front of you
But you keep looking right through me
You will never feel the same
Never feel the same as me
I talk and talk incessantly
About people I don’t know I will never know
I know it gets under your skin but it’s a nice detour from reality because
I’m standing right in front of you
But you keep looking right through me
You will never feel the same
Never feel the same the same as me

Lyrics:
Silly Boy
It’s hard not to fall in love with a melancholy girl
Her sad eyes are so alluring
It’s hard not to fall in love with a melancholy girl
Her tears are so arousing
You let her walk away didn’t you?
You think about her everyday
You silly boy
It’s hard not to fall in love with a melancholy girl
Knowing you’ll never understand her
It’s hard not to fall in love with a melancholy girl
Her ways are so mysterious
That’s What We Do
Let us forget all of the people that have told us no
If you’re ready, I’m ready to go
Let’s drink and drink some more
We’ll burn this place down to the floor
Because that’s what we do
Because that’s what we do
Me and you
You think I’m funny
I think you’re funny
But people are glaring
And people are staring
It’s time to go
His Face
You were so adored in 1974
The girls and boys would all yell encore encore
My heart is filled with love for his face
Every thought returns to his face his face his face
Someone somehow somewhere
Is keeping a lock of your hair
A keepsake of the fantasies you did inspire
I cannot compete for his face
With girls so young and sweet
Wanting his face his face his face
My heart is filled with love for his face
Every thought returns to his face his face his face
How We Live Now
Off in the distance I hear men cry
As they die
Those that would dare
Would follow me anywhere
This is a song for my lost leg
I cannot stand I can only lean
The people elect me
Because they love me
I do not make veiled threats
Or kill them or betray them
I am a man of honor
This is a song for my lost leg
I cannot stand I can only lean
Names, Names, Names
I stare at your face on the computer screen
To kiss the monitor might seem obscene
I know your name you will never know mine
Names, names, names
I’ve read your comment section people can be so cruel to you
I stare at a class of blank faces knowing I’ll never make a difference
I know your name you will never know mine
Names, names, names
Miranda
I saw you girl
Skipping from stone to stone
With your blonde hair trailing in the wind
You could not offend
Any boy alive
With your carelessness
She's the most beautiful girl I've seen
Even more beautiful as the swan I see
You will never find me
We searched for 40 days and 40 nights
You lovely girls were nowhere in sight
You will never find me.
Girls
St. Valentine I've wrote a poem for thee
Expressing my girlfriend's beauty
Girls take off your gloves
Take off your silk stockings
It's been waiting an eternity for you and me
1, 2, 3, it's so fun to see
We tighten our corsets
And admire hair spun from gold
Scattered Pieces
Let’s take a ride
Along the pacific coastline
Let’s live for today okay
Who cares about tomorrow?
Who cares about tomorrow?
Let’s take a ride
Along the pacific coastline
Picking up our scattered pieces
Picking up our scattered pieces
Ohhhhh ahhhhhhh
Who cares about tomorrow?
Ohhhhh ahhhhhhh
Who cares about tomorrow?
